Beyond Theory and Books

The world of nonprofit leadership is full of real, urgent, and rapidly changing challenges. For NGO founders, global development students, and impact-driven entrepreneurs, starting or growing an organization can be overwhelming and fraught with roadblocks.

Beyond Theory and Books: A Founder’s Real-World Guide to Starting, Surviving, and Scaling an Impactful NGO is a course designed to immerse you in the process of building an NGO — not through theory alone, but through the lived experience of Dos Corrientes, an organization built from scratch using these same principles. The course is schedule to be released in Q1 of 2026.

Each of the 12 lessons blends storytelling, hard-won insights, and real-world strategy with video content and a guidebook to develop your own plans. You won’t just learn what to do… you’ll understand how it actually works under pressure.

 

We’ve designed this to be flexible, engaging, and deeply practical. You can work at your own pace, whether you plan to immediately apply your learning to your own initiative or vision, or to take your time to plan for a dream that’s in your future.

While other workshops and training exist, Beyond Theory and Books presents a business-forward, highly practical curriculum to prepare you for the challenges of running an NGO.

You’re encouraged to treat your own passion project or idea as a “working case” throughout the 12 lessons. Whether you're figuring out startup structure, refining your pitch, building a financial model, or learning how to raise capital, you’ll be doing it for real.

Beyond Theory and Books includes: 

  • 12 video lectures sharing the insights of Dos Corrientes co-founder Don Wilson

  • Interviews with experts sharing their advice and lived experience

  • A 66-page digital guidebook for for reference

  • Interactive activities to spur your thinking and challenge your assumptions

  • Above all, a focus on having fun while learning about the world of NGOs
